Sweden has registered more than 2,000 new infections with the coronavirus within 24 hours. Today, a total of 2,128 confirmed cases were added to the database of the Folkhälsomyndigheten health authority – according to the TV station SVT, this is the highest daily figure since the beginning of the pandemic. In the meantime, more tests are being carried out, which is why the figures can only be compared with those from the first half of the year to a limited extent.
Almost 118,000 infections were detected in Sweden. The number of deaths related to Covid-19 infections rose by nine to 5,927. Sweden has taken a highly regarded special path during the pandemic. The measures adopted were less stringent than in most other European countries, but the government and authorities in the Scandinavian EU country relied above all on urgent recommendations and the common sense of citizens.
In the spring, the Swedes had recorded significantly higher infection and death rates than the rest of Scandinavia. Nevertheless, the current level of new infections in Sweden is comparatively low in a population-adjusted comparison with the rest of Europe.
